Some of this year’s talented artists include:

Ceramics
After spending years living off-grid in Maui, Karina Subijana wanted to create a line of objects that was aligned with her values of sustainability, minimalism, and aesthetics. Having lived in small spaces all her adult life, a lot of thought and care goes into the few items she keeps in her home. Optimally these items are functional, beautiful, and sourced ethically. “I hand throw all my ceramic work on the wheel,” she says. “The styles I am most known for are my carved pieces, berry colanders, and crystal urns, as well as my marbled clay pieces. Every piece is made in my home studio in an electric kiln supplemented with solar power.”

Glass
Nate Lowe is a glass artist from Penn Valley, California, specializing in strange and highly detailed nature and fantasy-themed blown glass art. His work ranges from realistic flowers and insects to fantastical imaginary forest, sea, and cave dwelling creatures in a variety of forms. His work is made with Borosilicate glass, and created using a technique called flame-working, or lamp-working, which utilizes a series of specialized bench mounted torches and graphite tools to heat and shape the glass. “I enjoy working with glass because of the almost infinite possibilities of design, the complexity, and crisp sharp details that can be achieved,” he says.

Jewelry
The jewelry that Shelli Kahl makes is representative of the way she lives her life: free-spirited, passionate, and uninhibited by the boundaries set by others. “As with my life, there is an overall plan for each piece, but I’m not concerned with exact details of how to arrive at the finished product,” she says, “I understand that goals can change, and I welcome the natural twists and turns that both life and my jewelry take as they arrive at the next finish line.” Shelli’s jewelry includes sterling silver and 14K gold rings, bracelets, pins, pendants, and earrings studded with colorful gemstones.

Photography
Wendy Hudnall is a Los Angeles born, Lake Tahoe-based photographer specializing in fine art landscapes. Her skillfully crafted and impactful images convey the grandeur she has been fortunate to witness as a city native who feels most at home in the wilderness. Wendy possesses a unique vision, blending technical and creative aspects to deliver distinctive imagery in a bold style that is truly her own. For Wendy, photography is a vehicle of storytelling, taking observers on a journey, each image turning a page to a new adventure to be shared. She aspires to create resplendent scenes that transport and develop strong emotional connections with those who view them.
