Lake Tahoe and its connection to nature and the beautiful landscape make it a draw for many.  For almost a century, Granlibakken has been a retreat center and resort, built around this connection.  Discovered as a mecca for extreme tobogganers in the 1920’s Granlibakken was given its Norwegian name (which means hill sheltered by trees) in the 1940s by ski jumper Kjell “Rusty” Rustad.  Rusty added amenities and thus Granlibakken began!

Rich in history, today Granlibakken is a 74-acre resort complete with lodging accommodations, restaurants, pool, spa, tennis courts, a ski hill and activities to keep you and your family busy 365 days of the year. With so many activities and offerings, Granlibakken is a hub for group reservations. Many weddings, family reunions, conferences, and special events are hosted at Granlibakken.

In 2016, Granlibakken began to coordinate and run two Wellness Retreats:  the Restorative Arts and Yoga Retreat in the spring, and the Wellness Weekend in the fall.  These retreats are focused on activities like meditation and yoga to rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul, and are the perfect place for people of all abilities to connect with wellness.

Working behind the scenes to make sure all these events and activities run smoothly is Jennifer Capistran, Director of Sales for Granlibakken. Jennifer has worked at Granlibakken for 19 years, first applying to work alongside her mom.  Little did she know that her job at the hotel reception would get her to where she is today.  Jennifer is passionate about Granlibakken, you can see it in her smile and the way that she lights up when she talks about her job and her coworkers.  She is excited to come to work every day because of her staff that feels like family. Over her 19 years, she has seen many of her fellow employees get married, have children, and even grandchildren. In fact, many people have more tenure at Granlibakken than she does!

Granlibakken is known for its fantastic customer service – you are always guaranteed a friendly face when on property.
