Meet Bob Bolton, Director of Tahoe City Parks and Recreation Department – TCPUD & Tahoe/Truckee local.

Bob was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, raised in Belmont, California (SF Bay Area) and studied Parks and Recreation Administration at California State University, Chico.

Shortly after graduation, Bob was hired by his college buddy Gary Romano to join the TCPUD Parks team in 1988, where he was eventually promoted to Park Ranger. Bob’s ranger days mirrored a “Reno 911” cast member, with a uniform, short shorts, badge and mullet. The mullet (or something else?) helped Bob find love with Parks & Rec. colleague Amy Diepenbrock Bolton, and in 1991 they were married.

In 1999, Bob left TCPUD to serve as Parks Superintendent for the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District, but after only six years, Cindy Gustafson helped bring Bob back to lead the TCPUD Parks and Recreation team from 2005-2017.

Bob is extremely grateful of his fulfilling career providing world-class facilities and programs to his community, including establishing the Tahoe City Ice Rink & Concerts at Commons Beach, transforming Rideout to an active community center, and, most importantly, building an incredible parks and recreation team in Tahoe City.

When not working, you can find Bob camping, enjoying live music, playing softball (a multi-year coed champion in Tahoe City), savoring post-game drinks at Pete N Peters and relaxing at the Lake with his wife Amy, and children Ben and Jackie.

After 23 years, Bob has announced his retirement from TCPUD…and his final day is TODAY. (No…don’t go!) Bob looks forward to his next chapter of travel trailer camping trips, country music concerts, exercising, remodeling his Truckee home and finally finishing his ever-growing “to do” list.

Even though we don’t want to say goodbye, we thank Bob for his years of service to Tahoe City. Bob, don’t forget to stop by the Lagunitas Brewing Co beer booth at this summer’s Concerts at Commons Beach – we got your drinks covered!
