It’s #facesoftahoecity Friday! Meet Ruth Schnabel, Executive Director of California/Nevada Festivals & Events Association (CalFest), former Executive Director of North Lake Tahoe Snowfest & Tahoe City local.
Ruth was born in Minnesota, attended a Lutheran boarding school (where she met her beloved husband Larry at only 14), and lived in Colorado and Orange County, CA before moving with her family to Tahoe City/Carnelian Bay 44 years ago.
Like a true local, Ruth has experienced many jobs in nearly EVERY building across Tahoe City. Some career highlights include: owner of “Butlers of Tahoe” clothing store (located in the Big Tree Center), co-owner of Chapel by the River (former wedding chapel on the Truckee River at River Grill), Executive Director of the Lake Tahoe Summer Music Festival & Executive Director of SnowFest! for 17 years – just 3 years after its inception in 1984.
When not working or volunteering, you can find Ruth perfecting her golf game at Tahoe City Golf Course/Bar and Restaurant, eating dinner at River Grill, enjoying funky tunes at Concerts at Commons Beach or experiencing life with her kids and grandkids all over the Tahoe/Reno area.
Ruth loves her life in Tahoe City because of the PEOPLE – people who happily made the choice to call Tahoe City home & people who always support each other in the good, the bad and the ugly.

The FOUR Days of Tahoe City FUN include Tahoe City Days Poker Prowl, Mountain Town Walking Tours, Scavenger Hunt, Tahoe City Sidewalk Saturday, 8/6 (special Tahoe City Days event), Tahoe City Day Golf Scramble, Concerts at Commons Beach, Procession to the Party! & the finale event – Tahoe City Day Party Featuring Groove Foundry on Monday, Aug. 8.
