Share neighbor’s information 

Please send the names, emails and phone numbers for any of your neighbors so we can add them to our contact list for our Firewise efforts. You can also share my email with them to answer any questions: kat@visittahoecity.com.

The Tahoe City Firewise area has 5 districts. Click here for the district map. 
Our committee is made up of representatives from each of these districts:
  • Fairway/Bunker Drive (including the golf course and Tahoe Lake Elementary)
  • Grove Street/Jackpine residential grid area
  • Business District from Grove Street east to Sierra Terrace neighborhood
  • Business District from Grove Street west to Savoie (former Pfeifer House)
  • Tahoe Marina Lakefront and Tavern Shores condo area

Firewise assessment & action plan

North Tahoe Fire has undertaken an assessment of all properties in the district to create a report of needs in the district. Our Committee will be meeting later this summer to work on developing our Action Plan. A link to a sample of this document is here.
TCDA will take the lead to organize and put together this information under direction from the committee.

What does it mean to be a Firewise Community? 

The National Firewise USA Recognition Program provides a collaborative framework that helps neighbors within a defined geographic area:

  • Get organized around wildfire preparedness
  • Learn how homes and landscapes can better resist ignition
  • Take practical, locally driven actions to reduce wildfire risk
  • Strengthen partnerships between residents, businesses, and fire professionals

The program empowers communities to identify risks and take achievable steps that make a real difference. Any community that meets a set of voluntary annual criteria and maintains “In Good Standing” status may officially identify itself as a Firewise Site. 

Why Firewise matters for Tahoe City

Firewise participation supports long-term planning, improves coordination with fire agencies, and reinforces Tahoe City’s commitment to responsible stewardship and community resilience.

TCDA is working with local fire and conservation professionals to guide this process, but community participation is essential. Residents and business representatives play a critical role by:

  • Participating in Firewise discussions and planning
  • Learning about defensible space and ignition-resistant practices
  • Supporting community-wide mitigation efforts
  • Helping Tahoe City meet annual Firewise requirements

Whether you live, work, or operate a business in Tahoe City, your involvement helps move us closer to Firewise recognition.
