TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Placer County is continuing design and support work on a project to install a permanent traffic signal at the Grove Street and North Lake Boulevard intersection in Tahoe City. Officially called the Tahoe City Complete Streets Improvements project, it’s intended to improve pedestrian safety and circulation at the Grove St./Hwy 28 intersection. In addition to the traffic signal infrastructure, the project includes lighting and accessibility upgrades, according to information provided by Placer County.
Placer County recently received funding from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. In cooperation with Caltrans, Placer’s Tahoe City Complete Streets Improvements project was awarded $1.4 million toward the estimated $2 million construction.
Placer County has hired a consultant team to complete the initial environmental documentation, perform preliminary engineering, and work toward project approval, in accordance with Caltrans requirements. There will likely be project support activities taking place in the coming months, consisting of digging and vactor-excavation in the sidewalks around the intersection to locate and catalog existing underground utilities.
Details about the scheduling and potential impacts of the underground work will be distributed to property owners and businesses in the vicinity and the TCDA prior to the work taking place. The schedule for installation of the full traffic signal is still being determined. Placer County will perform community outreach well in advance of the expected construction dates, to help mitigate any potential impacts.
