North Lake Tahoe’s Shop Local Holiday Contest Generates over $400,000 for Local Economy. Revenue generated doubles previous campaign efforts

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. (January 21, 2015) — Holiday shoppers in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee that participated in the Shop Local Holiday Contest generated $407,476 in revenue for local businesses. This revenue increased by more than 100 percent from the 2012 campaign that generated $192,225 in revenue.

In total, 256 businesses and 1,420 people participated in North Lake Tahoe’s “Show Your Love — Shop Local” contest that asked shoppers to retrieve a contest card and use it at participating retailers in Tahoe City, West Shore, Kings Beach, Northstar, Squaw Valley, Incline Village and for the first time, Truckee. Shoppers received a stamp for each purchase of at least $25. Retailers reported an average of $24,000 in sales from the program.

Participants were entered into a drawing for a $300 cash prize after earning four stamps and those with 12 stamps were entered into a drawing for a seven-night accommodation package in Greece, Costa Rica, Sedona or Cancun.

Jean Anicetti received the $300 cash prize and the grand prize was awarded to Jessica Koltz. The winners were chosen January 15.

The contest was designed to support local businesses, reduce the carbon footprint of locals traveling outside of their community to shop, and protect the region’s local character. Money spent at local businesses recirculates through wages and taxes, benefitting the economic health of the entire community and supporting local businesses.

The contest began November 28 and ran through December 24. For more information visit www.ShopNorthTahoeTruckee.com.
