In a recent editorial in Moonshine Ink, Tahoe City Brings Back the Boom, Katherine Hill, Executive Director of the Tahoe City Downtown Association explains why the Board of Directors decided to bring fireworks back to Tahoe City this 4th of July — and it all comes down to community response.

The community spoke loud and clear: locals and visitors alike wanted the fireworks back. The last show was in 2019 and was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the Board decided to move to drones, but after 3 years of negative response, the decision to move back to fireworks was made.  The editorial highlights how hundreds of public comments and a strong showing of donor support revealed just how much this tradition means to Tahoe City.

As Hill writes, this isn’t just about pyrotechnics — it’s about honoring a 77-year tradition, supporting local businesses, and offering residents and visitors a shared celebration that brings people together.
