Alpenglow Sports is thrilled to welcome Peter Croft, Doug Robinson, and author Why We Climb, Chris Noble, for our fourth Tailgate Talk of the season! Come see this legendary trio in action, as we celebrate the soul of climbing with a night of stories, slides, and excerpts from the book. Why We Climb is an exploration of the connection between climber and nature, an appreciation of the physical and mental skill of climbers, and a celebration of exploring the self, and the world, through climbing. John Long praises the book for showing “in clear and simple terms why risk and adventure – embracing the big unknown – is the spark that lights our lives on fire.” Noble’s book profiles some of the world’s best climbers including Conrad Anker, Tommy Caldwell, Alex Hannold, Paige Claassen, Ines Papert, and two of our guests for the evening, Peter Croft and Doug Robinson. In Noble’s words, “Why We Climb is an invitation to live a life filled with passion and purpose, to discover deeper connections with ourselves, our partners, and wild nature.”
Peter Croft and Doug Robinson will join Chris Noble for the talk and share their climbing wisdom and experience. Peter Croft is a Canadian climber with an impressive list of Sierra first ascents and free solos. In a tribute to his climbing heroes, the legendary Royal Robbins said of Croft, “Peter has been my hero for many years…[he is] one of the great climbing stylists in the world and remains unassuming, modest, generous, and always in touch with the essential joy of climbing.” Doug Robinson is a professional mountaineer and Tahoe local known for spearheading the “Clean Climbing” revolution in the 1970’s, aimed at reducing the impact of rock climbing on the rock and environment. Robinson has a staggering collection of first ascents in the Sierra, and has spent over half a century guiding and sharing his love of mountaineering in the US and across the globe. Croft and Robinson are both featured in Why We Climb; don’t miss this opportunity to meet them in person at this Tailgate Talk!
Tickets are $7 at the door. Come through, grab a brew, and listen to this legendary trio share their passion for the risk and adventure of rock climbing. Sierra Nevada will be served, and beer sale proceeds will benefit the Donner Land Trust and Preserve Black Wall Initiative.
