To some, the ocean is a fearsome and dangerous place. But to others, it’s a limitless world of fun, freedom and opportunity, where life can be lived to the full. A documentary presented by Patagonia and directed by Keith Malloy, Fishpeople tells the stories of a unique cast of characters who have dedicated their lives to the sea. The film investigates the universally transformative effects of time spent in the ocean. Viewers leave behind their limitations to find deeper meaning in the saltwater wilderness just beyond the shore.
While Fishpeople features surfers, it’s not actually a surf film. Instead, it’s a documentary that explores the lives of six people who have been transformed by the sea in completely different ways: professional surfers Matahi Drollet and Dave Rastovich, deep-water diver Kimi Werner, open-ocean swimmer Lynne Cox, photographer Ray Collins, and youth worker Eddie Donnellan. With a diverse cast of characters that features oceangoers from all walks of life, Fishpeople is beautifully shot, well produced, and leaves the viewer with an understanding of just how powerful and positive the ocean really is.
Join us at Alpenglow Sports for the Tahoe premiere of Fishpeople on Thursday October 19th. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased at the door. Cold beers will be served and donations benefit Keep Tahoe Blue.
About Patagonia
Patagonia grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers. Alpinism remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still makes clothes for climbing – as well as for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and trail running. These are all silent sports. None require a motor; none deliver the cheers of a crowd. In each sport, reward comes in the form of hard-won grace and moments of connection between us and nature. As a company, Patagonia delivers on this belief; Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.
