Collage (from the French: coller, “to glue”) is a technique of art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. A collage may include magazine and newspaper clippings, ribbons, paint, bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs, and/or found objects, glued to a piece of paper or canvas.
Day 1- Create custom papers to use in work on day two. Learn several techniques for making unique materials using paint, stamps, and stencils applied to smooth and rough surfaced papers of different weights. Explore salt and rusting techniques and altered magazine images. Choose a theme and plan your project for day two.
Day 2- Decide on composition, audition colors and materials to be included in your final project. Learn about adhesives, ephemera and how to include 3 dimensional objects to create a focal point. Ask questions, discuss ideas with your peers and complete your project. If time allows, you may create more custom collage materials to keep.
