Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite #1
Dubensky: Concerto Grosso for Three Trombones and Tuba
Berghmans: “La Femme a Barbe”
Weston Sprott, Trombone
Brahms: Symphony #4
The second Season 8 summer concert offers a lyrical experience by The Classical Tahoe Orchestra, who will perform Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite; a tone poem, describing without words, in musical language, the legend of Peer Gynt. Many in the audience will recognize the well known melodies.
This evening will also showcase the outstanding brass players who call their summer home Lake Tahoe with two short works by Arcady Dubensky and José Berghmans. In addition to highlighting the lower brass section, the audience will get to know a soloist from within the orchestra. Berghmans’ work “La Femme a Barbe” for solo trombone and orchestra will feature Classical Tahoe Orchestra principal trombone, Weston Sprott, who is during the year, a much admired trombonist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
The Classical Tahoe Orchestra was increased to 55 musicians last summer, allowing for expanded repertoire. Now, in the second summer to hear a Johannes Brahms’ symphony, the Classical Tahoe Orchestra will perform the most familiar of Brahms’ four symphonies- the powerful Fourth.
