Come celebrate Earth Day with Alpenglow Sports, Klean Kanteen, and Keep Tahoe Blue on Sunday, April 22nd at 4pm at Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge. Admission is free, with food and drink available for purchase from Sunnyside.
No plastic straws allowed! Instead, Klean Kanteen will give away their reusable stainless steel straws in a focused effort to keep Tahoe straw-less. Plastic straws litter our mountains, streams, and oceans, so this Earth Day, come on down to Sunnyside and celebrate going straw-less with music, food, and drink.
Over 500 million straws are used each day in the United States. That’s enough straws to wrap around the Earth 2.5 times every day. These commonplace tools are used for a few minutes then tossed aside, joining the surfeit of plastic waste created each day. Cities across the country including Seattle, Davis, and Miami Beach are banning or limiting the use of plastic straws. Giving up this small luxury can make a world of difference.
Straws are one of the top 10 sources of marine debris causing beach litter and damage to marine life. It is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Let’s make sure that is never true of Lake Tahoe!
