Meet Ben Martin, Executive Director/ Founder of Tahoe Truckee School of Music and Tahoe Local.
Ben was born in Boston and moved to North Lake Tahoe to study music at Sierra Nevada College, Lake Tahoe. After college, Ben moved to Maine to work construction with his brother – where he met and built a swimming pool for horror novelistStephen King. However, it wasn’t long before Tahoe called him home. Ben settled permanently in Truckee at 26.
Ben began his professional career as the President and Founder of Rubicon Technology, a North Lake Tahoe/Truckee telecommunications company, for 19 years. His career helped him gain valuable business skills, but he wanted more.
In 2009, Ben founded the Tahoe Truckee School of Music in Truckee. The school expanded to Tahoe City’s Lake Forest community in April 2015 and hopes to open a school site in Incline Village in early 2017.
Ben loves his job because he can inspire his students to find their creative passion through music. Ben hopes to give his students the same music opportunities he experienced…and more!
When not working you can find Ben mountain biking, Nordic skiing, paddleboarding, playing music (guitar, electric bass, Dobro, ukulele, banjo, mandolin), singing/performing rock ‘n’ roll (Ben has played with Kenny Loggins and The Beach BoysMike Love) or just enjoying Tahoe life with his wife Elisa.
If you are interested in expanding your musical horizons, look no further than the Tahoe Truckee School of Music. The school offers private/group lessons, performing/recording opportunities, has 20 instructors, 150 students and books over 100 music professionals to benefit the school’s music scholarship programs.
