It’s #facesoftahoecity Wednesday – two days early! Meet Christin Hanna Madigan, Founder & Artistic Director of the Lake Tahoe Dance Collective & Tahoe City local.
Christin, a direct descendant of Ulysses S. Grant (U.S. President who declared Commons Beach the property of the people of Tahoe City), was raised in Tahoe but dance brought her to San Francisco to train at LINE Ballet at only 17 years old. After SF, Christin moved to New York City to study at American Ballet Theatre & Joffrey Ballet School, and then on to many years of professional dance with the Oakland Ballet Company,Connecticut Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Nevada Festival Ballet & New Chamber Ballet – as one of its founding members.
After a life of dancing across the country, Christin came home to Tahoe City because it allowed her the support needed to take the giant leap forward & start her own dance company – Tahoe Youth Ballet & eventually the non-profit Lake Tahoe Dance Collective.
Christin feels incredibly fortunate to be part of this small mountain community, especially because everything she loves is only a few blocks away – Alpenglow Sports (owned by her husband of almost 3 yearsBrendan Madigan), her family…and, of course, Lake Tahoe!
When not working, you can find Christin hanging out with Brendan at their little old west shore cabin in constant needs TLC, eating delicious cuisine atWolfdale’s, or taking a class, seeing a performance & just staying relevant in dance in the city by the bay.
Christin lives for dance because it allows her the opportunity to share something she loves, make new works of art & fill the world (& Tahoe City) with a little more beauty.
Get your tickets to the 4th Annual Lake Tahoe Dance Festival (July 27-29), starting with tonight’s opening gala outside Gatekeeper’s Museum. This beautiful festival offers something NEW – a chance to see great dancing & a platform to see the lineage and development of the art form. Plus, your support will help create a future artists residency program to foster new works and allow more artists the opportunity to be inspired and create in paradise – Lake Tahoe.
Tickets are still available at Trunk Show orwww.LakeTahoeDanceCollective.org – don’t miss out!
Stay tuned to @visittahoecity for more #facesoftahoecity next Friday.
