It’s #facesoftahoecity Friday! Meet Daphne Hougard, Tahoe City Farmers Market Manager, Sustainable Food Advocate, Photographer & Tahoe City Local.
Daphne was born in Massachusetts but considers herself a California girl – living in the beautiful communities of Santa Barbara (where she studied at Brooks Institute of Photography), Carmel, Big Sur & North Lake Tahoe/Truckee for 18 years.
For over 33 years, Daphne has worked as a successful commercial director, photographer & producer for a variety of clients that include Microsoft,Skype, Alaska Airlines & Bing. However, after one too many days sitting in bay area traffic, Daphne decided it was time for a life change and moved her photography career to Truckee.
In spring 2016, Daphne was hired as the Tahoe City Farmers Market Manager by Bryan Kaminsky, owner of Newcastle’s Natural Trading Company, 21-year Tahoe City market vendor & new operator of the Tahoe City market. Friends with Bryan for nearly a decade & farming “groupie”, Daphne was the perfect choice for a local manager committed to healthy living and eating. (Plus, Daphne grew up with chickens too!)
Daphne LOVES her role at the market and considers it her most satisfying job of her career – a job that allows her to work with an amazing team of vendors, many who drive hours to bring the Tahoe City community fresh food.
When not working, you can find Daphne paddling on Lake Tahoe (she is the founder of the Tahoe Outrigger Canoe Club in Lake Tahoe/Truckee), riding bikes to happy hour at the Sand Bar at Christy Hill, enjoying a beer while watching a movie at the Tahoe Art Haus & Cinema or looking Mr. Right – a single/semi-retired farmer/surfer of her dreams.
Stop by the FINAL Tahoe City Farmers Market of 2016, this Thursday, October 13, 8am-1pm at Commons Beach. Stock up on fresh produce & enjoy the incredible community-minded market that Daphne and Bryan have brought to Tahoe City this season!
We can’t wait to see Daphne’s smiling face again next spring at Commons Beach – for an even better 2017 market season! Learn more at www.TahoeCityFarmersMarket
